WHY CHOOSE PILATES WORKOUTS AT RDAM GYM
IN ROTTERDAM?
Rotterdam is always on the move, and that’s exactly why it’s so valuable to take a moment to pause. At RDAM GYM, we offer Pilates as your weekly reset. No machines, no noise – just you, the mat, and mindful exercises.
Our Pilates classes are small and personal. That means: an instructor who corrects your posture, gives tips, and helps you truly feel the difference. Experience a body that moves more freely, a stable core, and a natural sense of balance in daily life.

THE BENEFITS OF PILATES
-
More balance in your body: Whether you’re cycling around a corner or walking down the stairs, with more stability you’ll feel more confident in your movements and prevent injuries.
-
Better in other sports: Runners notice they move more efficiently, strength trainers feel more stable. Pilates builds the foundation that makes everything you do easier.
-
Strong core, strong posture: Your abdominal and back muscles gain strength, helping you stand taller and making daily activities (lifting, sitting, exercising) easier.
-
Move more smoothly in daily life: No more stiff back when you wake up or struggling to tie your shoes. Pilates loosens your muscles so simple tasks become easier.
-
Clear your head: After a busy day in the city, Pilates helps you release tension. You focus on your breathing and leave feeling lighter.

VEELGESTELDE VRAGEN
1. What exactly is mat Pilates?
Pilates is a training method performed on a simple exercise mat. You work with your own body weight and focus on controlled movements. This strengthens your core, improves your posture, and increases flexibility and balance.
But Pilates goes beyond that. With repetitions and a steady pace, you also build endurance and stamina. Your muscles don’t just get stronger — they become more resilient. You learn to engage them more consciously and sustain the effort longer. That way, you develop both strength and control throughout your entire body.
2. What pilates exercises do you do during mat Pilates?
You mainly do floor exercises on the mat, using your own body weight. Think of movements that strengthen your abdominal and back muscles, stretches for more flexible hips and shoulders, and balance and breathing exercises.
Everything is done calmly and in a controlled way, without bouncy or injury-prone movements. This makes it feel accessible, yet effective.
3. What is the difference between mat Pilates and reformer Pilates?
Mat Pilates is done simply on the floor, using nothing but a mat and your own body. Back to basics. You work with controlled movements that strengthen your core and improve your posture.
Reformer Pilates, on the other hand, uses a machine with springs and sliding platforms that add resistance or support. This allows some exercises to be made more challenging or easier, depending on how the machine is set up.
At RDAM GYM, we deliberately choose Mat Pilates. No bells and whistles — just functional training that truly makes a difference. Everything you learn — standing, sitting, lifting, and moving better — you can immediately apply the moment you step off the mat and back into the city.
4. Do i need to be flexible to start Pilates?
No, that’s the point. You don’t need to be flexible to start — you’ll become more flexible by doing it. Everyone can join, regardless of age or experience. So even if putting on your socks feels like a challenge right now… our Pilates classes are perfect for you.
5. Is Pilates only for women?
We get why you might think that — most images you see of Pilates show women on a mat. But that’s more of a cliché than reality.
Pilates is designed to make your body stronger, more stable, and more flexible… and that goes for both men and women. In fact, the method was originally created by Joseph Pilates — a man 😉.
6. Is Pilates challenging enough as a workout?
Don’t be fooled by its calm appearance. Pilates may look easy, but it challenges your muscles in a way you’ll really feel — especially your core.
7. How quickly will I see results from Pilates?
Many people notice a difference after just a few classes: a stronger core, less tension in the back and shoulders, and better posture. With regular practice, you’ll see clear progress within 6–8 weeks.
8. What is the difference between Pilates and a Yoga workout?
Good question! In our yoga classes, the focus is on flexibility, breathing, and sometimes meditation. It’s about relaxation, stretching, and awareness.
In our Pilates classes, you build strength, stability, and posture in a more targeted way, with lots of attention on your core.
Think of it like this: in yoga, you roll out your mat to relax and stretch; in Pilates, you roll out your mat to get stronger and more toned. Both classes help you feel better in your body, but Pilates is just a little more practical and sporty.
And if you really want to know the difference? Just book a trial class and experience it for yourself.
